The twisted tale of the phrase "Birthplace of the Texas Flag" 

The Lone Star Flag, with its bright blocks of red, white, blue. and a single inset 5-point star was created 186 years ago. This national flag of the Republic of Texas was commissioned by President Lamar, designed by Montgomery resident Dr. Charles Bellinger Stewart, and codified by the 3rd Texas Congress.

It seems fairly straightforward then, that the phrase 'Birthplace of the Texas Flag' would be directly associated with our city – but no! Montgomery Mayor Sara Marshall Countryman will share her first-hand knowledge of the legal battle that was required to ensure that iconic phrase was not exploited, but was instead protected with an intellectual property trademark.

Mayor Countryman will also discuss recent achievements in and future plans for Montgomery.

Additionally, we will have a printed handout available detailing flag protocols, and a presentation about a service program where students place US flags in your front yard for display on designated holidays throughout the year, which is a local High School Band fundraising initiative.

You won't want to miss hearing all about our flags during the June meeting!

We will also welcome our 2025 Scholarship winners, Brooke Baker of Montgomery High School, and Melissa Guerrero of Willis High School. 

Sign-in starts at 10:30 a.m.  The meeting will begin at 11 a.m., with lunch at 11:30 a.m. The program will begin at Noon. Meetings last until approximately 1:00 p.m.

Lunch is optional, but reservations must be made by 12:00 am on the Wednesday prior to the Luncheon (8 days before), even if you're not eating.
