The beautifully wooded Bentwater is located just north of Harris County in the scenic town of Montgomery, Texas.

The area offers a variety of natural amenities such as boating and fishing on the 22,000-acre Lake Conroe, as well as hiking and horseback riding in the Sam Houston National Forest.

Montgomery County, in which the city of Montgomery sits, is home to numerous challenging golf courses, cultural events, a host of antique stores, art galleries, live music, and local festivals.       One of the oldest towns in Texas, Montgomery started as a trading post in 1826 by Andrew Montgomery and was chartered 11 years later.

      Montgomery, the third county formed under the Republic of Texas, was the first county seat of Montgomery County and is recognized as the birthplace of the Texas Lone Star Flag.

      A stroll through Montgomery’s 19th Century Historic Downtown district transports you to a time of horse-drawn carriages and stately southern manners. Montgomery’s historic main street is lined with unique shops offering antiques, clothing, jewelry, and crafts. Restaurants, art galleries, two historic chapels, and several other historic buildings can also be found in this charming little village.

      Yearly events such as the Historic Montgomery Wine and Music Festival, Christmas in Montgomery, and the Annual Antiques Show & Sale bring visitors from across the state.

      Bentwater residents often gather together on the first Saturday of each month to experience Montgomery’s Lone Star 1st Saturday and Farmer’s Market which includes artisans selling homemade, handmade, and homegrown products, as well as free Acoustic Jam Sessions held throughout the city on the porches of local shops and restaurants.

      Lake Conroe offers 22,000-acres of clean, clear water for a large variety of recreation such as boating, kayaking, fishing, golfing, swimming, canoeing, water skiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, pleasure boating, and more.

      Lake Conroe is one of the largest and most active lakes in the State of Texas. Lake Conroe’s fishing piers, boat launches and shady tree-lined shoreline provides ample opportunity for novice and experienced fisherman alike. The lake is plentiful with largemouth bass, bluegill, white bass, crappie, and channel catfish and plays host to numerous high-profile fishing tournaments.

      Winding around the beautiful lake, Sam Houston National Forest beckons for even more outdoor fun. Residents and guests have easy access to explore the 160,000-acres of Sam Houston National Forest, making it a great location for hiking, camping, picnicking, and horseback riding.

      From preschool to college, students of all ages in Bentwater have access to excellent educational opportunities close to home.

      Bentwater is served by the Montgomery Independent School District (MISD), which is rated as a Texas Education Agency Recognized District and ranked among the top 15 percent of school districts nationwide.

      The locally developed curriculum places strong emphasis on academic excellence, and MISD is one of the most technologically advanced districts in Texas. All campuses are computer-networked, and there are computers in every classroom. The district is also a leader in integrating computer instructional technology into all core curriculum classrooms.

      There are also approximately 20 daycare centers and private schools in the Bentwater area, including a number of schools affiliated with religious denominations. These facilities offer childcare and instruction for all ages, ranging from infants and preschoolers to grades K-12. Many are accredited by various licensing organizations.

      Students living in Bentwater can earn four-year, masters and professional degrees from six major Texas universities close to home from the Lone Star College System, located on Highway 242 near I-45 North. Participating universities include Texas A&M, Sam Houston State University, the University of Houston (Main Campus and Downtown), Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern University.
