10 Ways to Feature Your Alma Mater at Your Wedding
Lake Conroe’s close proximity to both College Station and Waco makes Bentwater a dream wedding venue for current and former students of Texas A&M and Baylor Universities.

Lake Conroe’s close proximity to both College Station and Waco makes Bentwater a dream wedding venue for current and former students of Texas A&M and Baylor Universities.  With ceremony locations perched on the water’s edge, or tucked away in a beautiful water view garden, it’s no wonder so many Aggies and Bears have said their “I do’s” at Bentwater.  It’s also no surprise that school spirit and college pride are often highlighted on the big day!  From subtle references, to loud and proud, here are some creative ideas that you can use to show your guests what your school means to you:

1. Design a Special Groom’s Cake

Having a groom’s cake decorated with the school logo or mascot is a classic means of honoring your university. We love how creative and unique you can get with this kind of cake decoration!

2. Celebrate with Your School’s Fight Song

If you have quite a few college friends at your wedding, schedule a group photo during your reception. This is the perfect time to have your school’s fight song play in the background! You can also play your fight song for your recessional, reception entrance/exit, or during another portion of the reception such as the cutting of the cake or the garter pull.

3. Have Your Engagement Pictures Taken on Campus

Where better to take your engagement pictures than on your college campus? Most college campuses have beautiful grounds and landscaping that provide the perfect backdrop for your engagement pictures! In your photos, you can showcase your favorite spots on campus or places that are meaningful to you. Then, you can use your pictures in Save the Dates, Invitations, or even incorporate them into your table decorations.

4. Create a Signature Drink Named After Your School

You and your fiancé can each create a signature drink or cocktail and name it after your University! Examples include The Texas A&M Cooler, The Baylor Special, or The Aggie Cocktail. Get creative!

5. Use Your School Logo & Colors for Your Garter

A subtle and flirty way to include your school, a collegiate-inspired garter will be a great hit with wedding guests! It can also be a fun surprise for your groom.

6. Highlight Your School With Your Wedding Favors

From decorated cookies to custom drink koozies, your wedding favors are the perfect way to pay homage to your alma mater!

7. Accessorize Your Groomsmen with School Colors

Gift your groomsmen with socks in your school colors to wear on the big day. Another unique option is to get each of the groomsmen cufflinks with the school logo!

8. Incorporate your school colors as your wedding colors

If your school has colors that you love, why not use them for your wedding? Using more muted shades and adding a metallic into the mix can really make your school colors glamorous and becoming.

9. Photo Booth Props

For brides choosing to have a photo booth at their wedding, try adding in some fun game day props! More than likely, you probably own some such items all ready. If not, they are easy to find online or at retail stores near your school. Think footballs, foam fingers, and pom poms!

10. Ask the Photographer to Snap Pictures of Your Wedding Rings Alongside Your School Rings

This idea is simple yet memorable. Most Photographers ask for a list of detail shots that are important to you, so this is an effortless way to incorporate your school. These pictures are a fun, meaningful memento that you can show off again and again.
